Questions & answers

January 2012

I've searched online for the soundtrack to the Swedish movie 'Songs from the Second Floor', but I can only find the movie. Do you know if a soundtrack was released, and if it may still be available? I love Benny's 'Silent Song' (aka: 'Saknadens Rum' & 'Give Me My Song', and it would be great to hear it just as the tune itself (and hopefully it's longer than it can be heard in the movie).

Also, I would love to find the sheet music for 'Saknadens Rum' and 'Give Me My Song' (especially if they're broken into Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass parts). Only the related and wonderful tune 'Kärlekens Tid'seems to be available as sheet music from Mono Music and two web-links from Mono; thus, do you know of any other sources that might have these two songs?

Cheers, Tony, Australia.

UPDATED RESPONSE: Apparently there is an extremely rare three track promotional CD featuring Benny's music from Sånger från andra våningen (Songs from the second floor, released 2000). The three tracks were simply named 'Sång 1', 'Sång 2' and 'Sång 3' (Song 1, etc). The three tracks were later re-recorded by Benny Anderssons Orkester as 'Sång Från Andra Våningen' and 'Lauren' (on Benny Anderssons Orkester, 2001), 'Saknadens Rum' and 'Kärlekens tid' on BAO! (2004), and 'Tösabiten' (also on Benny Anderssons Orkester).

As far as I know Mono Music is the only source for BAO sheet music, so if they don't have it online, nor in the BAO Notalbum folio that was released a couple of years ago, it's not available, sorry.

Where and when was this recorded before a live audience please (as portrayed on You Tube)?

Thanks, Gary

I'm not sure which performance you mean, Gary - there are quite a few. The official promotional clip from 1978 features an audience. It was performed on the TV special ABBA in Japan in November 1978; on the Mike Yarwood Show in the UK in December 1978; on ABBA's 1979 tour of North America and Europe; and on the 1981 special Dick Cavett Meets ABBA. There were also a couple of impromptu performances on a couple of ABBA's final TV appearances in late 1982, on the Swedish programme Nöjesmaskinen and the UK programme The Late Late Breakfast Show.

I was wondering if ABBA Gold is going to be re-released in 2012 as it's the album's 20th anniversary in 2012 and also if you could tell me that the song 'Out Of Sight' is an unreleased track from 1982 and do you know if Frida's unreleased track from the Shine album 'I Don't Wanna Be Alone' is going to be released as the full version is on Youtube but in poor quality.

thanks, Adam, United Kingdom

I've not heard of any plans to re-release ABBA Gold to mark it's 20th anniversary. It was most recently re-released in December 2010 with a bonus DVD.

Though this title 'Out Of Sight' has been in circulation as an unreleased ABBA song for many years, there is no evidence to support it. It was apparently heard by a writer for an ABBA fanzine visiting Polar Music Studios in 1982, who described it as "a cross between 'You Owe Me One' and 'On And On And On'." On his website ABBA biographer Carl Magnus Palm deduces this could be a working title for 'I Am The City', a song which would fit the description.

Finally it's unlikely Frida's 'I Don't Wanna Be Alone' will be released. Frida has blocked release of unreleased songs several times before, such as known outtakes during her EMI years for the compilation Frida 1967-1972.

Who managed Agnetha and Frida's respective post-ABBA careers?

Chuck

Agnetha's financial advisor Staffan Lindé has effectively been her manager for the last couple of decades, while Görel Hanser has acted as Frida's manager,

Now that the list of songs in The Visitors Deluxe Edition has been published, why has 'Just Like That' not been released?

Roberto, Spain

There have been a number of reasons put forward on why 'Just Like That' has not been released in full. The short answer is most likely that Benny and Björn don't like it and don't want to release it. On his website Carl Magnus Palm gives further explanation on why it has not been released.
