ABBA... ZAPPA: Seventies Rock Photography
From 1968 to 1978 Gijsbert Hanekroot photographed pretty much everyone in rock music. Intimate, grainy and reflective, Hanekroots images capture several generations of rock royalty, from blues forerunners Fats Domino and B.B. King through megastars the Stones, Doors and Clapton, to a precocious and young-looking Talking Heads. Hanekroot loved the music, his subjects loved Hanekroot; the likes of Keith Richards and Bowie rarely looked so unguarded and benign. This packed, well-designed monograph has too many famous names and shots to enumerate; all epitomize the energy and creativity of a beloved period.
