UN Concert New York

The United Nations stopped business for several hours yesterday as the General Assembly ball became the venue for a spectacular benefit concert for needy children.

Many superstars of pop music, whose records sells millions around the world, performed free of charge to mark the beginning of the Year of the Child.

Among those taking part in the 90-minute extravaganza were The Bee Gees, Andy Gibb, Olivia Newton John, Donna Summer, John Denver, Rod Stewart, ABBA and Earth, Wind and Fire.

The Music For UNICEF Concert was held on the 9th of January, 1979 in New York, N.Y. which celebrated the International Year Of The Child, artists such as ABBA, performed and donated all the royalties from their new song, Chiquitita to UNICEF. The show was televised on the 10th of January on NBC-TV. Transcribed for ABBA World
